“The streaks that shape us most aren’t loud. They’re the ones we keep when no one’s counting.”
Hey Rollers,
This coming Tuesday marks the 100th episode of the King Moves podcast. That’s 100 episodes in 100 weeks.
A streak Ethan King and I are pretty damn proud of.
The genesis story of the pod is a simple one:
– Ethan’s surname is King. My surname is King.
– Ethan is a cool guy. I get to be cool by association with Ethan 😎
– Our catch-up calls were always valuable to us, so we figured – why not hit record and make them available to others.
That’s it.
If we had been chasing downloads, fame, or fortune, I guarantee we wouldn’t have made it to this milestone. Instead, our focus was simpler, showing up for one another and being consistently good at something.
Hitting 100 episodes got Ethan and me reflecting on other streaks in our lives, and that conversation was unexpectedly powerful for me.
Because when you think of “streaks,” your mind probably goes to:
- How many days you’ve gone to the gym.
- How many steps you’ve hit.
- How many mornings you’ve woken up at 5am.
- How many weeks you’ve kept your inbox clear.
- How many months you’ve not had a hangover.
All great markers, but when you zoom out and dig a little deeper, there are other streaks. Quieter ones, that tell a bigger story.
The kind you don’t even realise you’ve built. The kind that become who you are and how you show up in the world.
For me, that streak is bounce-back-ability.
I prefer that term over resilience or grit. Because it’s not about white-knuckling your way through or pretending everything’s fine (you’ve heard me say that many times).
It’s about taking the time you need, pausing when you must, and then making the deliberate choice to step back into the arena, again and again.
The reason I love being physically active is that the body is the ultimate scorekeeper and teacher. Over the past decade, a fair share of injuries and surgeries have forced me to practise my bounce-back-ability repeatedly.
And here’s the thing: each recovery left me with a stack of evidence. Proof that I can come back, not just to where I was, but often beyond it.
That evidence has become a kind of emotional muscle memory. A toolbox I can reach into when life gets heavy, professionally or personally.
And that’s what Smart Toughness really is.
Not the ability to never fall, but the ability to keep coming back stronger, clearer, more grounded.
The truth is, we all have streaks like this.
They’re not always measured in steps, views, or medals, but they define us just as much.
💪 The streak of showing up for someone who needs you.
💪 The streak of trying again when no one’s watching.
💪 The streak of choosing curiosity over cynicism.
💪 The streak of doing the hard thing, even when it’s small.
Those are the quiet streaks that count. And you don’t need a leaderboard or a Like to prove them.
You just need to keep stacking evidence, until it becomes who you are.
Because 100 podcast episodes, 10 marathons, or one small daily act all come down to the same thing…
The streaks that shape us most aren’t loud. They’re the ones we keep when no one’s counting.
Until next week.
Keep rolling.
Justin 👊
P.S. King Moves episode #99 is about How to Perform at Your Best, Even When You Feel Your Worst. Give it a listen.
Take Action in 3 Minutes:
Forget the obvious streaks. Zoom out.
👉 What quiet streaks have you built without noticing?
Write one down. Name it.
Then ask:
What evidence is that streak stacking about who I am, and what I’m capable of?
Keep adding to it.
