About

I’M JUSTIN KING.

I help leadership teams do the hard part of strategy: the doing.

I also coach, speak and facilitate monthly CEO forums for the Civitas Cape Town chapter. Outside of work, I’m a Cape Town-based husband, dad, entrepreneur and everyday athlete.

Before this, I spent 15+ years as a managing director, consultant and entrepreneur. I have a formal degree in finance, and a real-world experience degree in starting, building and managing businesses. Meaning I’ve sat on your side of the table. I know what a plan looks like on the Monday after the offsite.

Whether I’m in a boardroom, on a stage or on a long run, everything I do comes back to the same belief:

Doing hard things changes people.

But let me be clear, this isn’t about hustle culture. It’s not about grinding yourself into the ground. And it’s definitely not about pretending we all have the same 24 hours in a day or the same capacity to “push harder.”

It’s about choosing your hard, on purpose. Before the challenge chooses you.

My path here wasn’t a straight line. I’ve faced my share of hard things, some chosen and some not – including a divorce, the end of business partnerships, and the personal and professional lessons that came with both.

But through it all I’ve realised it’s not about doing what others say is hard, it’s about doing your hard thing. The thing that calls you forward. That kind of discomfort is a teacher. It shows us who we are, what we value, and how we want to lead ourselves and others.

And the goal isn’t to just push through. It’s to get stronger, wiser, and more grounded as you go.

10 in 10

I ran 10 marathons in 10 days.

Not for charity, not to prove I was superhuman, but to remember I was human. It was to strip away the noise and see who I’d meet in the mirror of repetition, fatigue, and doubt.

That experience reshaped how I live and how I lead others.
It’s what I bring into every workshop, keynote, and coaching conversation.

I’ve worked with leaders and organisations across South Africa and internationally, including Mercedes-Benz South Africa, Yoco, Sanlam and Remax, helping them make better decisions and show up with relentless consistency, in business and in life.

Keep Rolling

Why the Dung Beetle?

My life motto is “Keep Rolling.”

It’s inspired by one of the world’s most underestimated creatures: the dung beetle. They don’t rush. They don’t overthink. But they’re relentless. Purposeful. And weirdly wise.

Lasting success isn’t built through extremes. It’s built the way dung beetles move their cargo. Steadily, persistently, and with surprising strength.

I have a dung beetle tattoo as a reminder. When things get hard – because they always do – I pause, assess and pick a line. Then I keep rolling, even if it’s not in the direction I first intended.

That’s Smart Toughness right there.

Justin
