“True commitment isn’t forged in the moment, it’s revealed by it.”
Hey Rollers,
There’s a moment in every big game where intent becomes obvious.
Not from what’s said, but from what’s shown.
I was watching the 3rd Test between the Wallabies and the British & Irish Lions yesterday when one of my favourite questions came to mind:
Are you interested, or are you committed?
It popped into my head after a carry from Aussie skipper Harry Wilson. A decent run, solid enough contact, but something in the body language felt off.
Then I thought about Duane Vermeulen…
Watch these two clips side by side and you’ll see it:
- Vermeulen runs into contact with full-body commitment.
- Wilson gets there, but hesitates – just a beat.
Same collision. Same stakes. But two totally different decisions in action.
One runs like a man who’s already decided.
The other… not quite.
Watching that moment, I realised something:
Commitment isn’t invisible. It shows up.
In how you lean in.
In the way you speak up.
In the decisions you’ve already made before the moment of truth arrives.
Hesitation, on the other hand, whispers “maybe”.
And maybe rarely moves the needle.
Here’s what I’ve learned the hard way:
You don’t rise to the occasion.
You fall to your level of commitment.
Whether it’s chasing a goal, stepping into a hard conversation, or making a leap you’ve been putting off, ask yourself:
“Am I running into this like Vermeulen…
or am I hanging back like Wilson?”
Because in the end, the split second between interest and commitment tells you everything.
Until next week.
Keep rolling.
Justin 👊
PS. This is not intended to be a dig at Harry Wilson. I was stoked to see him lead his side to a W over the Lions yesterday.
Take Action in 3 Minutes
Take a moment and scan your week ahead.
- Think of one goal you’ve been circling but not acting on.
- Ask: Have I truly committed—or just stayed interested?
- Identify one visible action that would show full commitment.
Then go do it. No more half-in.
