“Don’t confuse starting small with the fear of staying small.”

Hey Rollers,

It’s easy to underestimate how most things actually begin.

We tend to look at the finished version and forget what it looked like at the start.

A simple example is Ed Sheeran. He didn’t start by selling out arenas. He started by playing small gigs. Quite literally hundreds of them. Sometimes to rooms that were barely listening, sometimes to no one at all. Just showing up, playing, repeating.

There’s nothing glamorous about that version of the story, but it’s the part that made everything else possible.

I think this is where a lot of people get stuck. It’s certainly where I get stuck.

It’s not that we’re unwilling to start. It’s that we’re worried about how small the start looks to those around us.

So we wait, because that feels safer. We convince ourselves that the perfect moment will come. But that’s not how it works.

Starting small isn’t the problem. It’s how things are built, and accepting that should take a lot of pressure off.

Sit. Crawl. Walk. Run. Olympic podium.

You don’t skip steps.

Starting small won’t kill you.

Staying small will.

Until next week.

Keep rolling.
